Psalm 32 | True Blessing in Life: The Power of Confession | Rev. Dr. Don L. Davis
| | Season of Lent | |
No one can live under the burden of unconfessed sin, unreconciled relationships, and unaddressed wrong. Jesus died and rose in order to cleanse us from the penalty and power of our sin. All we need do is confess them, now, and receive the blessedness of true forgiveness. Come to the Lord with penitent heart and receive the cleansing today, by faith. |

The command of Jesus may appear, at times, to be non-sensical to us, counter-intuitive, and contrary to logic and common sense. Yet, when we obey him as Master, he reveals to us his miracle working power and presence, and accomplishes his will through us. Let us walk in the beautiful light of Jesus, obeying his will, in spite of how things look, how we feel, or what others think. He will reward our obedience with his presence! For Christ |

| | Christ's Ministry | |
Rejection and misunderstanding is inevitable in the world for the person who insists on living for Jesus of Nazareth as Lord and Savior. We must follow him and fight the good fight even in the face of misunderstanding, false judgment, lying accusation, and simple rejection. Like him, we must entrust ourselves to God knowing that he will supply us with what we need to represent his interests wherever he leads. May God grant us the courage to bounce back from rejection, for Christ |

Matthew 2:1-12 | When Magi Worship | Rev. Dr. Don L. Davis
| | Epiphany Season | |
In the manifestation of the coming of Jesus to the Gentile magi, God foreshadows his desire to reveal himself to those who are humble and hungry to see the Son and offer their allegiance and treasures to him in loving worship and genuine discipleship. As we celebrate the incarnation of our Savior let us continue to ask the Lord to reveal himself to the world, to the nations who desperately need to see him for salvation, and to the church who desperately need to see him afresh as her Lord and Head, and to us, who serve his cause in the city. In Jesus |

1Corinthians 9:24-27 | Run to Win: Cultivating a Disposition to Take It All | Rev. Dr. Don L. Davis
| | Discipline | |
In ancient Greece, four celebrations of the games were held: the Nemean, Pythian, Isthmian, and the Olympian, which was held every four years and was the most celebrated of all. In a real sense the Olympian games were religious celebrations, done in honor of Zeus, with the games commenced with sacrifices and offerings being given to the heroes and the gods of the day. Paul uses these contests and contestants to underscore the kind of focus the winning athlete needed to win the day: no one could win without good coaching, disciplined exercise, self-control, grueling sacrifice, and obedience according to the rules of the race. As servants of Jesus of Nazareth, we run the race he has plotted for us, and to the victor will go the imperishable crown of life and righteousness. Let us run the race laid out for us in such a way that we may win, and we be greeted with recognition from the judge himself on that day of coming reward. Amen! |

Hebrews 12:18-24 | We've Come to the Right Place: Entering Mount Zion with the Saints | Rev. Dr. Don L. Davis
| | All Saints Day | |
Now that we have embraced the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord, Messiah, and Savior by faith, we share a fundamental journey with all the saints of God of all times and places. Now liberated from judgment, condemnation, and punishment by the sacrifice of Jesus who mediates a new way for us to God, we no longer fear the judgment of Sinai. We need not fear and tremble terrified before a righteous God, who because of our flesh could accept not even one of us. Rather, we now have come to Mount Zion, the place where God dwells, the place where his grace and mercy have been given for centuries to men and women, boys and girls who simply acknowledged their need for his saving grace. We know through the Spirit that we have arrived at the right place, we have come to the right place. We therefore affirm the communion we share with all the saints of all the ages who have hastened to the city from where no repentant sinner has ever been turned away, and no saint who lives there can boast or brag. Through the grace of Christ we have come to Zion, and we know in our hearts we have come to the right place. Amen and amen. |
